Shit like this...

It's shit like this that turn women off from science.  People wonder why so few women pursue science and it's because whenever they see popular science in the media, it is always men discussing it, while the attractive female is there for them to fawn over.  Even the popular show, the Big Bang Theory, has their main female character as dumb and attractive.  It seemed there was no way the woman in this clip could be a fellow scientist, as Neil DeGrasse Tyson assumes it must be his sister (since he didn't want to assume it was his rival's love interest)... then, of course, sister is the only other option.  To boot, at the end of this clip, Bill Nye calls "dibs" on her, as if you can even call dibs on a person or that just because you "called dibs" she is now yours.   This is what happens when men run a network and make shows geared towards men.  They produce a society where there is one viewpoint and women are seen as less than.

The only saving grace is that it was Jewel Staite. I imagined her building a giant smashy robot off-camera.

Because the other way to phrase the insult could have been a reference to her being a fellow scientist.
